How To Add Images to Signatures in GMail

Adding signatures in emails is the one thing I hate about GMail. Well… that and the lack of folders. Fear not, as there is a workaround, courtesy of some help from GMail Labs. Its not perfect but it works. The only flaw is that you have to select it every time you send an email which may be a dealbreaker for some. To be honest, it will probably cause me not to add a signature to every email I send out. On with the show…

Directions for adding a signature with an image in GMail

  1. Go into your settings area of GMail. Your settings tab is in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  2. Go to the Labs area and enable “canned responses” and “inserting images”.
  3. Compose a new email.
  4. Add your signature content. You should see an image icon in your rich email editor if you want to add an image.
  5. Look for the new link above your content for “Canned Responses” and save it as your new signature
  6. Compose a new email and then add the signature using the “Canned Responses” menu
*Tip: If you like a signature someone sent you, you can usually just copy their signature and paste it into a new canned response then change the content to personalize yourself.
